New Delhi [India] - Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has been instrumental in securing the IPL 2025 Playoffs 1 and Eliminator matches at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, as per insider reports.
The venues for the playoffs of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League were officially announced on Tuesday. The schedule indicates that Qualifier 1 will take place in New Chandigarh on May 29, featuring the top two teams, followed by the Eliminator on May 30.
Sources have confirmed that, “Harbhajan Singh played a significant role in bringing the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches to Chandigarh.”
In addition to the New PCA Stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, recognized as the largest cricket stadium globally, will host Qualifier 2 on June 1 and the grand finale of this lucrative league on June 3.
Teams such as Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings have already secured their spots in the IPL playoffs. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are vying for the final playoff position.
The upcoming match between DC and MI at Wankhede Stadium is crucial, but rain could disrupt the game, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai over the next four days.
As reported by ESPNcricinfo, rain began in Mumbai around 8 PM, cutting short DC wicketkeeper KL Rahul’s practice session, although the Mumbai Indians had completed theirs. Heavy rainfall and dark clouds were prevalent over the Wankhede Stadium throughout the evening.
If the match is canceled, both teams will receive one point each, making their final group stage matches critical. Mumbai will face PBKS at home on May 26, while DC will play against Punjab on May 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
